Abbie's Home

Abbie came home! I hadn't mentioned it in my blog as I've been in some state of denial, but she went missing last Thursday. The worst part of the story is that when she got out, she was in heat. Yes.. believe it or not... me, the one who is always preaching about how irresponsible people are when they let their pets have litter after litter has a cat that isn't fixed. Its something I have just kept putting off as I haven't wanted to get up an extra hour early for work to take her in. I just figured it wasn't a big deal since I keep indoors, unless of course....SHE GETS OUT! duh. Pregnant or not pregnant I'm just so glad that she's home. I've been driving myself mad wondering where she could be and if she was okay. She's not exactly street smart since I've never really let her outside..which accounted for most of my guilt. She's a little roughed up and thin but she looks good. Sam was happy to see her. He hasn't left her sight since shes been home...its so much fun to watch. Well its 11:30 pm and Mr. Matt's in bed. Think its time I join him. Here's some pix of her getting a bath..as if she hasn't been through enough :).

Bread and Pie

So...highlights over the weekend were...

Took the dogs to the dog park on Thursday. Note to summer...please don't leave me. We worked a ton on the house both inside and outside. If everything goes smoothly the basement will be sheet rocked tomorrow and the grass will be laid Saturday. It's so exciting to watch everything come together. Sunday morning we went to Ruth's Diner for brunch. Somehow we ended up at Ikea. I think I managed to find something for every room in the house. It really is the dollar store for furniture. I was a good girl though and didn't purchase anything....yet ;). Its Monday now and Matt should be just about finished with class. I see he managed to devour the rest of the blackberry pie I had made. Back in the day, my grandma had always wanted to teach me to make homemade bread and pie. I never did as I just figured "why make it if you can buy it". One of my many regrets is not letting her teach me. I had never realized how much I loved her home cookin til it was gone. Ive made homemade bread a dozen times now and still it never tastes quite like grandmas bread. It does however put a smile on Mr. Matt.

my perfect guy

" You know when your guy is perfect when you walk into a room dressed in sweats, make-up and tears running down you face, and the first thing that he says to you is 'Baby, you look beautiful.'"

Dear Mr. Matt... Thank you for being my perfect guy.

Superbad

Went to see Superbad. Freaking hilarious! The hubby says he didn't like it...but I caught him laughing like more than a million times. I love Seth Rogen...would watch any of his movies. One of my all time favorite series is still Freaks and Geeks.

So I think I'm gonna try to get back into cookin dinners. During our first year of marriage I cooked all the time, but somewhere along the line I got out of the habit. Matt starts school on Wednesday so I figured this would be a good time to get my butt back in the kitchen. If nothing else it will keep us from eating out on a daily basis. Speaking of eating out... had won tons tonight. Have I mentioned that I could live off of won tons. Throw in a nice cold pepsi ....yes the Rice King even has the little round shaped ices. Why is it that the shape of the ice makes a difference in the taste? I dunno..maybe its all in the head.

It's almost 8pm now. Matt took a drive to his brothers work to return something. I am gonna go work in the garden for a few minutes ...see if I can pull some weeds before it gets dark and I have to risk stepping on a snail. Is there any sound worse than the sound of a snail crunching?? I think it comes from when I was young and my grammy loved to crunch them...ehh makes me cringe at the thought. After the garden...I'm hoping to grab some time to read a little bit then I will get some dough made and in the fridge. Gonna have homemade blackberry pie tomorrow ;).

Sunday Blues

"Life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quickly you hardly catch it going"
Tennessee Williams

Well its Sunday....already. I wish I could find a way to stop wishing away the whole work week in attempt to get to the always anticipated weekends. I feel like so much of my life is wasted with this thought process. This morning was nice. We slept in. Went to breakfast at No Worries. Stopped at ghetto mall on the way home to look for a jacket since I happen work in an ice box. I was able to find a pretty cozy one...not the cutest but I'm at that desperate point as the office never seems to get warmer than the 60's.

Ive recently become a vegetarian. I don't usually like to tell people as every person you tell feels like a debate needs to be made from it. Note to those people...Ive lost 8 lbs now and feel healthier than Ive felt in a really long time. That my friend is all the debate I need. Even if you're not an animal activist...the health benefits of becoming vegetarian are very appealing. I admit, I had doubts that I would be able to stick with it as I have always been the hamburger, fries, and a coke kinda girl. However, it's been a few months now and I honestly feel it was the best decision I have ever made.

It's about 4pm now and Mr. Matt is taking a nap. I think I'm gonna go work in the laundry room for a little bit. I bought a cheap lounging chair for car camping today and would love to find some time to grab my book and break it in.

2 years!

Last weekend was our 2 year anniversary. I never thought marriage would be so great but it just keeps on getting better. We decided this year to celebrate with a car camping trip. We've been on a few backpacking trips this summer but had not made it car camping yet. It was the perfect choice, not only because we had a blast together, but with so much remodeling going on at home the fundage is a little tight. We've been lucky so far as we've been able to do all of our remodeling without so much as touching a credit card. We decided on our favorite car camping spot up American Fork Canyon. It was gorgeous as usual. Highlights were : Seeing two moose coming down for a drink, several curious deer hanging around the camp, throwing the ball into the lake for the dogs, watching Sam dive in the lake after the ball, watching the birds of prey fly overhead, catching salamanders, reading, snuggling with the hubby, watching some dumbass ATV driver who was riding where he should not have been getting stuck in the mud, freaking our as something VERY large walked around the outside of our tent, hoping that that something was just a moose and not a bear, and of course..getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

No human Kids Yet

Ours kids consist of 2 dogs and a cat. Gabe is a German Short hair who is almost 10 years old. Matt got Gabe when he was just a little bit older than a pup. As Matt was on his way into the pound to find a puppy companion, Gabe's owners were walking into the pound to drop him off. It was love at first sight as Matt took the dog and neither of them ever made it into the pound. Sometimes I wonder if Gabe's previous owners knew what they were giving away as Gabe is the smartest most well behaved dog I have ever seen. Lately he has been showing signs of old age...its heartbreaking.

Sam is a Border Collie/Lab mix. He is 3 years old with the energy to go with it. Matt and I picked Sam out together, well somewhat together. He was the first dog I layed eyes on as I walked into the pound and I knew at that second that he was the one. He was so sad at the time and wouldn't even respond to me as I called him over to the gate. Matt disagreed with me as Sam was nothing like what he was looking for. We looked at all of the dogs there and of course went home with Sam. Every once in awhile I throw in an I told you so as Sam is perfect. His personality is so much fun and yet sweet at the same time. We were lucky as he picked up on Gabe's obedience pretty quick and we were able to bypass doggie training school altogether.

Abbie is our Siamese cat. She will be 2 yrs old in October. Matt was surfing the net online at school one day and found her out of the blue. He brought her home to surprise me. Surprise me it did as we had never thought about getting a cat. I was worried about how the dogs would interact with her. Later I found out that there was nothing to worry about. Sam and her are best friends..constantly playing and running around the house together. She seeks Gabe when she is tired as he more calm and easier to cuddle with. She also loves to clean them. Nothing can replace the loyalty of a pet. It doesn't matter how bad your work day is, when you get home and see how happy they are to see you, it all just simply goes away.
